Don’t waste time being a raisin.
These days, more than ever before, people are stressing the importance of hydration. Yeah, I know, it can get a little tiring being told to hydrate every waking moment. But the thing you need to understand is that water is vital to humans. The majority of our bodies are made up of water. If we don’t have enough of that stuff, then what even are we? So whether you’re exercising or just lounging in the sun, remember these tips for when you’re starting to dry out.
For most people, water is, of course, the best avenue to hydration. No sugar, no flavors, just good old fashioned H2O. However, some people lose a lot of their body’s salt content in their sweat, and water alone isn’t quite going to cut it to bring that back. If you’re a salty sweater, make sure to pack a simple snack to go along with your water.
If plain water is too boring, try coffee or tea. A moderate serving of caffeinated drinks will hydrate you just fine, as well as give you a little energy boost. Just be careful; too much caffeine can dry you out more later.
If you don’t want a drink, eat some fruit. Both fresh and frozen fruit have water contents that rival our own bodies, so they’ll give you plenty of water and nutrients to boot. Watermelon in particular can be a lifesaver on a particularly hot and dry day. For a great hydration solution, make a smoothie out of your favorite fruit and either skim or low fat milk, both of which are good hydrators in their own right.
